It may be mentioned here in August 28, Lawyer Debi Prasanna Pattnaik was allegedly thrashed by police personnel in public view at Nuabazar area. On next day, a police vehicle parked near RDC (Revenue Divisional Commissioner) office was torched during a lawyers protest against the incident.
After the advocates intensified, their agitation demanding immediate arrest of accused involved in attack on lawyer in Cuttack. Yesterday night on Tuesday the Crime Branch arrested two person. The arrested two persons, identified as Home Guard from Chauliaganj Police Station and another one Kishore Jena was taken into the custody of the Crime Branch for violation of Section 41, said source.
On the other hand, lawyers will hold a meeting on Wednesday to decide on the future course of action in Cuttack. They had staged Dharna in front of all Government Offices of City. Work at the officers of the RDC (Revenue Divisional Commissioner), Collector and DRDA have been disrupted following the agitation. Beside, Judicial work in all the Courts of District including High Court has been paralyzed due to the cease-work strike being observed by lawyers.
Meanwhile, two PILs have been filed in the Orissa High Court in this connection, seeking judicial inquiry into the whole incident.
A bench headed by Chief Justice K S Jhaveri adjudicating over one of these writ petitions, had instructed the state government to investigate into the incident by a DIG-level officer of the state crime branch police.
